Goblins grab 4th playoff spot with 3rd consecutive victory
Saturday November 12th – While the Kings were still looking for their first victory of the season, the Goblins had a simple task: win to secure the 4th ticket of the playoffs. A dozen of King fans saw both teams almost equally numbered to fight and strive for victory.
The Goblins scored first with a good assist of Dieter Van Der Hallen for Alexandre Joos de ter Beerst, who got a clean shot. Same scenario for the second goal. Then the Kings fought back as Robin Roevens found a way through the Goblin’s defense and scored. Endscore first quarter 1-3.
In the second quarter the Goblins dominated more. Got more possession, won almost every grounball, set up some good plays and scored easily. The Kings were defending compact and united, but forgot too often the free man on top, making it easy for the adversary to get a shot. This resulted in six more goals for the Goblins, one more for the Kings.
After the break, the Kings found their second breath and fought back as hard as they could. They tried their best to set it up in the offense, but luckily for the Goblins, their defense was still alive and kicking ass, as usual. It’s a real shame the Kings couldn’t translate their best quarter into goals.
The Goblins however scored two more times. End score third quarter 0-2.
The Goblin coach woke his troops and stressed the importance to continue fighting, play ball, concentrate and ultimately score. And that’s exactly what they did! They scored ten more goals in the last quarter! That’s an average of one goal every two minutes! Loïc Van Laere scored two times directly by winning the face-off. One clean shot, one assist. The Goblins got wings and almost everything succeeded resulting in one of the most scoring quarters in the Cup! The Kings however were able to score twice more. End score last quarter: 2-12
End so the game ended on a 4-21…The King fans surely saw lots and lots of goals! What we should remember is that the Kings weren’t able to win in the Cup, and the Goblin did what they had to: secure a place for the second stage of the Cup.
