Women’s clinics in Buggenhout and Brussels great success

Friday  of 13th May we organized a big girls-only training session on the field of FC Lambrecht in Opdorp. We were very pleased to have 9 new girls joining us as well as three  goblin girls and one hunter girl which made it a total of 19 girls including the present brewers girls. I shouldn’t forget the various supporters on the side line who I want to thank for their presence!

We started for a run around the field and as far for exercises we splitted the group in 2 to be sure everybody could learn at its own level. We followed with the rectangular with 6 points, a moving through zig-zag-passing drill. To speed up we used two balls that needed to chase each other.  Other drills covered the 3 types of dodging as well as passing as fast as possible under certain conditions 5 balls to the  other side of the field where both groups realized that tactics are as important than technique.

In the second half we mixed both levels of groups and made de red and the black team playing a scrimmage using our brand new goals. We didn’t keep track of the line rules but stick rules were kept under control to avoid injuries.

I believe that everybody had a great time and it is for sure repeatable!

Let us use this occasion to announce that the Brewers board is very proud to have 11 girls on the team right now, all very eager to run, cradle, pass, catch and shoot better every week. And last but not least the girls team will be from now on called Buggenhout Bees.

Somewhere far, far, far away in a town called Brussels; all Belgian girls were invitedto join the 2nd lacrosse clinic given Bernice Chen and Claire Newman. The sun was set high in the blue sky drying the artificial turf and illuminating the white lacrosse balls, making the scene perfect for this event. 1 Gazelle, 1 Hunter, 3 Rhinos and 7 Brewers united themselves to play some lacrosse with Bernice and Claire.

For some of these girls it was already their third Lacrosse activity this weekend as they joined the girl’s clinic in Buggenhout on Friday and supported for their male friends on Saturday and now joined this clinic as well.

After a short introduction to the new players all girls started the practise. All basic skills were done: from passing and catching till dodging and scoring goals. As some supporters noticed all girls are getting better if you look at their individual skills. So you can say all teams are doing a good job. Hopefully they continue with this in the future.

In the second part of the clinic the girls played a little scrimmage and learned more about off ball motion when they are in attack. After the practise was done some players stayed in Brussels to watch the BSA clinic but eventually everyone went home safely. Overall it was a very interesting activity to see as supporter and join as a player. We want to thank Claire, Bernice and ISB for hosting this clinic and looking forward to join next clinic with more players.

And as always good stories have to end with the same line: “And they will play lacrosse happily after, after.”
