ISB Raiders no match for Goblins in their opening game

March 6, 2011: Today the young lads from the ISB Raiders made their first entrance in the Belgian Lacrosse competition. After just one week of training with their final roster they showed the courage of competing with players of somewhat twice their age. The Goblins were also eager to play today, since they introduced three new players in their team!

The opening goal was scored after only 8 seconds by Felix De Can (the shooting cannon from the Goblins). This continued throughout the first quarter and Felix scored a real hat-trick. The youngsters from ISB showed that they have a killer shot and Paul Lefebvre scored the first point for the Raiders: 4-1 after the first quarter.

Goals continued being made by the Goblins because of their physical dominance. After the first half the scoreboard showed a 9-1 for the team from Ghent. Octavian Susnea showed off his feeding skills with 2 assists and Hannes Van Den Bossche and Loïc Van Laere dominated on the midfield and were able to score some goals after great individual actions. The coaches from the Raiders kept boosting morale in their team and they didn’t give up! ISB showed some astonishing technical skills but they lacked the teamplay to finish up their attacks.

The Goblins got pushed back a bit during the third quarter. The Raiders got more space to try things out, while the Goblins were tempted to play more individually and they forgot about team tactics. They could only score three goals during this quarter.

But he green team really went all out in the last and final quarter and scored eight more goals. Defender Xavier Schietse scored his first goal with a longpole, Jan Van Cauwenberge scored a backwards goal, Alexandre Joos scored his first goal for the Goblins and Loïc Van Laere scored two goals in 30 seconds, the second one straight from the face-off. The last goal of the game was a beauty from Dieter Van Der Hallen, faking a shot and dodging his man before blasting the ball from distance in the top corner.

And so this match ended with a 20-1 victory for the Goblins, who willl visit Lille next weekend for quite a different challenge!

Props to the young guys from ISB who fought really brave against the adult Goblins.

The goal scored by the ISB Raiders was scored by me (Paul Lefebvre) and not by Nick Tucker.

    Thank you,

    -Paul Lefebvre, #31

  2. Hey Paul,

the ref/scorekeeper saw it wrong then. Thanks for the correction. I’ve updated the article and the stats.
